Why is everyone thinking of quitting their jobs? Val just messaged me on MSN telling me that she wants to quit her present job. The new Managing Director has been giving the whole company a lot of pressure. But the good news is tat the Hong Kong General Manager is coming back from Hong Kong to have a look at the present plans. Hopefully, then he will make the direction for the company. Val is still very hesitated about quitting her job as she did not have any other job offers. Wonder what she can do if she quits her job.
Competition now is very keen and the pay is sort of on the lower end, but you are expected to be able to multitask. This is the present situation in Singapore. Imagine when I get out of National Service in 2 years time, can I even get a job within 2 months? Or do I need to go for more furthering of studies to be on par with the unemployed people?
Ivy is also having second thoughts about her present job. She feels that the company has too much of an expectation of their staff. On one hand, she is bored of the job as she does not have much to do on her hands. Telemarketing could be very tedious and boring at times. After the talk that she had with her General Manager, she found that that the General Manager expects her to play a bigger part in the company's progress. The General Manager also changed her seat to the desk right beside him. I guess is to keep an eye on her due to the mistake she made. But I think it is a bit too far as to keep someone right under your nose because of this kind of mistakes. But overall, I find that her General Manager is a very understanding and impressive person. He seems to think for the company and the staff. He could put himself into the shoes of the employees and help them to make the right progress.
Ivy is supposed to do up a report on her job scope and responsibilities. She couldn't get started, so I decided to help and give her hell lots of "Questions & Answers". I guess after everything I have typed, she won't have a problem with the report because everything that is supposed to be written in the report has been pointed and phased out by me. The only thing she needs to do now is to rephrase my words and to organize them into a report form. Feeling very tired after all the typing and brainstorming. Now, she's on her own. Good luck, girl!
Job vacancies these days are opening up and yet, there are more and more unemployed graduates. I guess either we do not make an effort to impress during our interviews, or employers expect too much from us. What do you expect from a person, who just graduated and is starting on his/her first job. The working world is still very much different from our academic world. Employers need to learn this.
