Just got off the phone with Sandy.
Is July a month of disaster for relationships? So far, I have seen 7 relationships gone stale or facing problems. Sandy's case is no different. Her boyfriend is mad over some trivial issue regarding her character. I have known Sandy for years, 8 years and 4 months to be exact and we are very close friends. She is a very outgoing and friendly girl with an open mind. Obviously, she have a lot of male friends and Sandy treats her friends very warmly due to her outgoing and open-minded nature.
At one point in our Secondary school, I was rumored to be attached to her because I am always with her. And YES, I admit that I like her at that time. She is the kind of girl who expresses her feelings very openly. She greets her close friends with either a hug or a kiss sometimes. This led to people calling her names. People who do not know or understand her called her a slut, bitch and even prostitute. Instead of being upset over these comments, she remained as who she is and continue with her life.
People misinterpreted her because in our society finds it hard to accept liberality at that time. But where I am from, this is part and parcel of daily life. I greet my close friends with hugs and kisses too. Just innocent hugs and kisses with no extra meaning. In that era that we were in, it is normal for guy to be liberal, but girls, who are liberal are labeled as sluts and bitches. That is very unfair. Why can't a girl be liberal when a guy could be?
My guess is that her boyfriend could be jealous that his girlfriend hugs and kisses male friends. But keep in mind, these are her close friends and relatives, not any Tom, Dick or Harry. She don't only do that to guys, but also girls, cousins, nephews and nieces. He has been in relationship with her for 5 months now, don't tell me that he realise this now? From what Sandy told me for the past 3 months, he has been very irresponsible in the relationship, but she endured all his mistakes because she truly love him. When you are in love, you need to accept each other's flaws and adjust yourself to his/her kind of life.
I couldn't give her much advice because I myself is also facing problems. I just told her that she should have a good talk with him, find out what are the problems that he is facing. Relationships could be a heavy burden if the relationship is forced to continue despite both parties having major problems in the relationship. On the other hand, if both parties could sort out their differences and salvage the relationship, they will grow closer in the process.
What is meant to be will be. There is no point continuing if you see that the relationship has no chance of salvaging. Breaking up instead could bring to both parties relief and more joy.
I hope that all the couples out in the world can sit down and talk things through whenever they have problems or arguments. Breaking up is an option, BUT it is the last one. Don't make the wrong decision and regret your decision all your life. The girl/guy might be the person who you loved the most in your life. I have made this mistakes, so I hope you guys/gurls won't repeat the same mistake.
Pondering over my own problem. Sara did mentioned yesterday, a suggestion that we treat these 3 years as a period, where we seriously think over our relationship. Is there a point to? Is she trying to tell me something else? I don't wish to over-react, but I can't help thinking. Is this the end? I seriously don't hope so. If the end is near, I am very confident that I will not be the one who brings it to its end.
Although it is sad to hear such words coming from Sara, I understand her worries and I believed that she has sufficient reasons to think that way. I admit that I wasn't the best of boyfriends, there are guys out there who can treat her better than me. She has given up so much in this 7 years, 5 months and 21 days relationship, yet I brought to her so much insecurities.
Anyway, Sara will be leaving Singapore on the evening of 2nd of August for UK. Some friends asked me whether I am spending the remaining days with her. My answer will be "Of course. Unless she don't want me to.". I want her to leave with happy memories and no worries even though the relationship is drawing to a close.
Tonight's blog entry is one of the longest I have written in this blog. A lot of feelings and memories came back to me when I am alone. All the happy moments, sad moments and unforgettable moments...
