Checked into Friendster in the afternoon. Saw a post "PLS! HELP ME B4 THE SCH REOPEN!!!!". So I clicked on it to see what's up. Discovered that it's someone seeking help in some holiday homework. So I did some of the questions and post it here, so that the person can find his/her answers here. Did not do them all. Lazy to crack my brain to solve all. Did the simple ones only.
These are the answers. 2)80% of the people at a cinema were adults. 75% of the children at the cinema were girls. There were 36 more girls than boys. a)How many girls were there at the cinema?
75% of kids are girls, so boys of kids is 25%.
Since there is 36 girls more than bois, means 75% - 25% = 50%
50% is equal to 36 girls
therefore, (36/50) * 75 = 54 girls.
b)Some girls left half way during the movie.After which,10% of the remaining people at the cinema were girls.How many girls left the cinema halfway?
first, find out the percentage of girls of the people in the cinema.
since 80% of people in cinema are adults, so kids will be 20%
--> 75/100 * 20/100 = 3/20
= 15%
therefore, 15% is 54 girls
so 5% = (54/15) * (15-10) = 18 girls.
4)David and Johnathan started walking from the same place but in the opposite direction along a straight path.After walking for 2 hours,they were 14km apart. David's average speed was 3km/h. Find Johnathan's average speed.
total distance david travelled: 3km * 2 hours = 6km
distance johnathan travelled: 14km - 6km = 8km
average speed of johnathan: 8km/2hours = 4km/hour
6)For a race, Rebecca ran at a speed of 6m/s for 10 seconds.She ran a further 40m at a speed of 8m/s.What was her average speed for the race? (Give your answer in its simplest form.)
total distance rebecca ran: 6m * 10 sec = 60m
time taken for the next 40m she ran: 40m divide 8m/s = 5 seconds
total distance she ran: 60 + 40 = 100m
total time she took to ran 100m: 10 sec + 5 sec = 15 sec
average speed: 100m divide 15 sec = 20/3 fraction
= 6 and 2/3 fraction
7)A piece of paper has the dimension of 42cm by 66cm.Solomon would like to cut out circles of radius 7cm. What is the maximum number of circles that he can cut out from the paper?(Using or pie is not required for this question.)
since circles are cut from square, means we can take the circles as squares: 7cm by 7cm squares
calculating by the length 42cm, 6 squares can be cut from it: 42cm/7cm = 6
calculating by the breadth 66cm, maximum of 9 circles can be cut from it: 66cm/7cm = 9 and 3/7 fraction.
therefore, total circles: 6 * 9 = 54 circles
8)Barney repaired 15 toys on Monday.On tuesday,he repaired 2/5 of the remainder of the toys. If he still had 45 toys to repair,how many toys were there in the beginning?
after repairing 2/5, he still have 3/5
since 3/5 of remainder is 45, remainder is: (45 divide 3/5) * 5 = 75 toys
total toys at beginning is: 75 = 15 = 100 toys.
